Human chorionic gonadotrophin (HCG) is a hormone produced in women during pregnancy. The body utilizes this hormone for protection and nourishment of the fetus by delivering essential nutrients of the caloric value obtained from the mother’s stored fat reserves to the placenta, thus sparing her lean muscle. For decades, HCG by injection has been commonly used in the treatment of a wide range of medical conditions besides weight loss, including infertility in women and hypogonadism (extremely low testosterone levels in men).HCG targets stored nutrients and idle calories in the fat cells and liquefy their content. The nutrients are then released into the bloodstream; just the same way a pregnant woman passes essential nutrients to her unborn child.

If tested, you will find that the urine of pregnant women naturally contains HCG. However, today you can find, on the market, synthetic HCG, such as Pregnyl. According to Christmas Jones (author of 2007’s HCG and The Weight Loss Cure), HCG works to perform a metabolic recovery, resetting the hypothyroid and thus boosting metabolism and increasing one’s ability to burn body fat at a much higher rate. It is also said to break down body fat, thus causing rapid and massive weight loss even prior to registering on a scale. The Center for Modern Aging’s HCG diet Augusta will protect the endogenous fat and muscle essential for the body to stay healthy while at the same time avoiding loose skin and sagging brought about by excessive weight loss.

Dr. A.T.W. Simeons studied the British medical journal, The Lancet, and in 1954, his publication widely introduced HCG to the world as an effective weight loss management drug. His study and subsequent publication (“Pounds and Inches: A New Approach to Obesity,” found out that about 125 to 250 I.U. of HCG administered just once a day for about 23-46 days, coupled with VLCD (very-low-calorie diet) containing 500 calories, resulting in weight loss averaging 1 pound a day. Simeons’s dialogue around obesity and HCG to manage a disorder of energy metabolism in response to a growing market for weight loss drugs was a success and in late 1950,s, FDA approved the use of various prescription appetite suppressants to aid weight loss management.

Three major compelling arguments promote Dr. Simeons’s program: fat loss around unwanted areas such as the abdomen and things but not muscle, capacity to reset one’s base metabolism to process food better and more efficiently, and maintain weight loss. Dr. Simeons’s Pounds and Inches manuscript sought to explain three types of fat, but his program deals with the third type of fat that is problematic and not required by the body in order to survive.

The first one, structural fat, fills the gaps between organs, and is somewhat a packaging material, providing a springy cushion. The second type is an ordinary reserve for fuel, which the body utilizes when nutrient from the digestive tract is insufficient to meet the daily nutritional requirement. However, the third type of fat, which accumulates to make overweight patients suffer, is not necessary for survival. While this abnormal fat is a reserve for fuel, unlike normal fat reserves this type o fat is not readily available to the body in case of nutritional emergency. Instead, it is kept away in a “fixed deposit” rather than “current account” and cannot be of immediate use to the body when needed.

When an obese person tries to starve in order to reduce, s/he will first lose the normal fat while the belly fat remains. This can be very frustrating for the obese patient. Fortunately,  is the hottest topic of discussion today and online chat rooms are flocked with people looking for weight loss solutions. However, HCG faces many detractors and controversy. However, FDA only approves its use for the treatment of specific problems affecting the male reproductive system and in women who face difficulty becoming pregnant, stimulating ovulation in the process.
